Towards the end of 2022, we took a deep dive into the evolution of farmhouse décor: its past, present, and possibilities for the future.
Now, newly into 2024, we’re here to share the latest iteration of farmhouse style: European Farmhouse.
What is European Farmhouse
European farmhouse takes the relaxed, down-to-earth feel of the American farmhouse and elevates it with Old World influences.
Before we delve further, it’s important to note – when we say, ‘American farmhouse,’ we do not mean the country-kitsch stereotypes the 1990s conjured. No, we are talking about farmhouse style with roots; homes that utilize the land’s natural materials and enjoy streamlined functionality paired with simple but hardy beauty.
These minimalist charms are then imbued with a heightened sense of history and romance to create the European Farmhouse aesthetic. This can be done in a variety of ways, though antique finds, architectural details, and rich textural accents are most common.
To bring personality and patina to farmhouse design, look for wallpapers with rich color and timeless patterns. Paintings of lush landscapes, well-worn wooden accents, and aged brass or golden fixtures bring a sense of time-worn elegance to your space. Layered together, you’re bound to create a well-loved home bursting with personalized and perpetual charm.
